John Leguizamo’s Chess-Themed Movie, Critical Thinking Debuts on September 4

The Critical Thinking movie tells the true story of a group of Latinx and Black teens living in the toughest Miami ghetto studying at the Jackson High School and are part of a chess team. The teens then became the first inner-city team to win the U.S. National Chess Championship. The lead character, a teacher played by John Leguizamo, give the kids an opportunity to make something of themselves instead of falling victim to the world of crime and drugs around them.

The movie should have debuted at the South by Southwest (SXSW) film festival earlier this year, but was thwarted by the coronavirus pandemic. Leguizamo also directs the movie, which will be released on virtual cinema, VOD, and digital on September 4, 2020.
