Learn How to Navigate As a Digital Artist with GRIT Talks Happening This Weekend

We’ve always been hearing that the Digital Arts in this day and age is one of the more up and coming industries we can jump into.

But navigating through this emerging industry has been hard especially for those who are aiming to have a more professional but freelance career in the industry, this is where Gunship Revolution‘s GRITalks comes in.

Gunship Revolution, in partnership with Rumble Royale, Johndrich Information Technology Services and Optimo, presents the very first of the GRITalks series.

GR Creative Directors Harvey Bunda (Transformers, Star Wars, He-man) and Brian “Tots” Valeza (Elder Scrolls: Legends, Mortal Kombat, DC’s Injustice) and GR Senior Art Director Brian Fajardo (Soulcalibur, Street Fighter, Darkstalkers) will be headlining the first ever Gunship Revolution Industry Talks. They will be discussing, demonstrating, and defining those skills and techniques that have become central in today’s Video, Board, and Card Game Art Industries.

The event will be segregated into three talks with breaks and eventually a portfolio discussion at the end of the three-talk seminar.

Here’s a rundown on the talks and what you can expect from GRITalks:

Odyssey

Time: 1:15 – 2:45 PM

Odyssey is an in-depth voyage through the professional Digital Illustration process for the trading card game industry, step-by-arduous-step. From reviewing the brief to conceptualizing sketches to executing the final render, we will be dealing with skill-sets that not only provide for great art but make your process more efficient as well.

  • What are the key details needed in the project brief before I start production?
  • How do I customize my process to avoid or reduce revisions?
  • Why is mastering each stage of production important?
  • What are the key skills I need to develop to enhance my process?
  • How does size, purpose, and design play a role in making quality card game illustrations?

Boost

Time: 3:00 – 4:30 PM

As an essential skill for all professional illustrators, mastering composition will give your portfolio and project pieces a huge upgrade. Boost will tackle the right strategies and mindsets required to build solid composition skills. From building an efficient visual library to enhancing common concepts to developing creative problem-solving techniques, Boost will help turn all your dull compositions into thought-provoking, cover-worthy illustrations.

  • How do I turn simple ideas into eye-catching pieces?
  • How do I expand, organize, and develop my visual library to upgrade my composition skills?
  • What are some key tips and tricks I can apply to make my illustration process more efficient?

Conjure

Time: 4:45 – 6:15 PM

Conjure is a full, 360-degree exploration of concept art how concept art skills relate to becoming a better artist. Discussing both the technical, psychological, and professional dimensions of concept art, Conjure is a complete course in handling one of the most creatively-challenging facets of the video game industry’s art production. In Conjure, we will guide you through building a visual vocabulary for developing ideas and help you present your concept work effectively. With the tools of this talk, you’ll be ready to build the right portfolio, reel in your first gig, and thrive as a concept artist.

  • What’s the difference between illustration and concept art? What are the common misconceptions?
  • How can I develop the right set of samples to showcase my abilities as a concept artist?
  • How can open-mindedness, resourcefulness, and patience help me become a better collaborator during the game production process?
  • What is my role and responsibilities as a concept artist? What is expected of me?
  • Which mindset and skills do I need to develop to become a more efficient concept artist?

After Conjure, there will be a Portfolio Review and Q and A. Ticket price is at 2,000 php and you can pay via bank deposit or Paypal. If you can;t attend this Saturday’s GRITalks that will be held at Fully Booked Bonifacio High Street, you can also still join on their second run on July 27, at Warehouse 8 in Makati.
