realme C63

realme brings us the C63, their latest offering in the fiercely competitive budget smartphone segment. Priced to be an attractive option for everyday users, the C63 promises a feature set that aims to exceed expectations within its category. I spent a significant amount of time with the device to assess if it delivers on its promises.

Design and Build

realme C63 review shot

The realme C63 arrives in two colorways: Leather Blue and Jade Green. I tested the Jade Green variant. It’s a subtle yet eye-catching shade that shimmers slightly when held at different angles. The back panel boasts a textured finish that feels surprisingly premium in hand. While it’s plastic, it offers a good grip, minimizing the risk of accidental drops. The Jade Green finish helps mask fingerprints and smudges better compared to a glossy finish, which is a plus.

The front features a 6.7-inch LCD display with a waterdrop notch. The bezels are slim on the sides, but the chin is noticeably thicker. This isn’t necessarily a dealbreaker, but users accustomed to near bezel-less displays might find it a touch distracting. Despite this, the display boasts a 90Hz refresh rate, providing a smoother scrolling and browsing experience compared to the standard 60Hz displays commonly found in budget phones.

The resolution is HD+ (1600 x 720), which delivers decent visuals for everyday use. Watching videos and browsing social media content appears clear, but eagle-eyed users might notice a slight lack of sharpness compared to Full HD displays.

One of the highlights of the C63 design is its durability. The phone carries an IP54 rating, signifying resistance to dust and splashes. This provides peace of mind against light rain or accidental spills. It also boasts a Rainwater Smart Touch feature, which allows for accurate touch response even with a wet display – a valuable feature especially when the rainy season hits the country.

Performance

The realme C63 is powered by the Unisoc T612 processor, paired with 8GB of RAM in the variant we tested. While not the top-of-the-line chipset on the market, it should be sufficient for light to moderate tasks like browsing social media, streaming videos, and using basic productivity apps. During our testing, the phone navigated through menus and apps fairly smoothly. Multitasking between a few apps was manageable, but we noticed a slight slowdown when switching between demanding applications.

For gamers, the C63 might not be the ideal choice. While it can handle casual games without much trouble, graphically demanding titles will likely experience frame drops and stutters. If mobile gaming is a major priority, you might want to consider a phone with a more powerful processor.

The C63 runs on Android 14 with realme UI on top. realme UI is known for its customization options and user-friendly interface. The phone comes bloatware-free, which is a welcome change for budget devices. We were able to personalize the phone’s look and feel to our liking, and the overall software experience felt smooth and responsive.

Camera System: Capturing Memories on a Budget

The realme C63 sports a dual rear camera system with a 50MP main sensor and an 8MP secondary sensor. In good lighting conditions, the main sensor can capture decent photos with acceptable detail and color reproduction. I was able to capture clear and vibrant images outdoors on a sunny day. However, as with most budget phone cameras, low-light performance suffers. Photos taken in dimly lit environments exhibit noticeable noise and a decrease in sharpness. The 8MP secondary sensor is likely for depth information, aiding in portrait shots where it helps blur the background behind the subject. The portrait mode produced decent results, with good edge detection in most cases.

The front-facing camera comes in at 8MP, which should be sufficient for video calls and casual selfies. While it won’t compete with high-end phone cameras, the selfie camera delivers acceptable image quality for most users.

Overall, the camera system on the realme C63 is about what you’d expect from a budget phone. It can capture decent photos in good lighting, but struggles in low-light scenarios. If you’re a casual user who only takes occasional photos, the camera system should suffice. However, photography enthusiasts might want to look elsewhere.

Battery Life and Charging: Powering Through Your Day

The realme C63 boasts a hefty 5,000mAh battery. Paired with the power-efficient processor and optimized software, I was able to achieve a full day of use on a single charge with moderate usage. This included browsing social media, streaming videos for a couple of hours, checking emails, and using light productivity apps. Even with more intensive usage, the phone should comfortably last a full day, with some users even reporting stretching it to a day and a half.

The C63 also supports 45W SuperVOOC fast charging. This allows you to top up the battery quickly, minimizing downtime. In our tests, a 30-minute charge provided enough juice to reach around 70%, perfect for those who frequently run low on battery.

Verdict

The realme C63 positions itself as a solid contender in the budget smartphone market. The phone boasts a large, smooth display, a decent camera system for everyday use, and a long-lasting battery with fast charging. The durable design with an IP54 rating and the rain-friendly display are unique features for a budget device.

So far, the realme C63 seems like a great option for budget-conscious users who prioritize a long-lasting battery, a decent camera, and a durable design. It’s a solid option for your everyday use. The phone is not only thin enough you won’t think it’s there at times and it’s protected enough that you won’t have to fear it would be scratched and even use it during rain.
