Paris Appointed Host for Esports World Cup 2026 in Landmark Venue Shift

The Esports World Cup 2026 is officially heading to Paris. This landmark decision marks the first time the global gaming tournament will take place outside of Saudi Arabia.

The Esports Foundation confirmed that the event will run from July 6 to August 23, 2026. While organizers initially planned to return to Riyadh, ongoing regional conflicts in the Middle East forced an accelerated timeline for the tournament’s international rotation. The move aims to give teams, players, and fans the travel stability required for an event of this magnitude.

Geopolitical Shifts Accelerate International Expansion

Since its inception, the tournament has called Riyadh home, growing rapidly under Saudi backing. However, regional instability heavily impacted international flight logistics and event planning. Organizers decided to pivot to Europe to preserve the scale and competitive integrity of the tournament.

Riyadh helped turn the Esports World Cup into a global phenomenon,

Said Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports Foundation.

This year, we are excited to bring EWC to Paris for its first edition outside Saudi Arabia.

Reichert adds.

Reichert noted that the foundation intends to return the flagship tournament to Riyadh in 2027 once regional conditions stabilize.

France Deepens Investment in Competitive Gaming

The venue shift underscores France’s aggressive push into the global gaming industry. French President Emmanuel Macron met with Reichert at the Palais de l’Élysée on May 19 to finalize local operational support. Macron publicly welcomed the decision, calling the tournament a historic honor for the French capital.

Paris already boasts a robust history of hosting elite gaming events, including the League of Legends World Championship Finals and VALORANT Champions. Local government officials expect the seven-week event to drive significant summer tourism to the Paris region.

Staggering Growth and Record-Breaking Prizes

The Esports World Cup 2026 arrives on the heels of a record-breaking 2025 season. Last year, the tournament generated over 750 million global viewers and 350 million hours watched across 97 broadcast partners.

The upcoming Paris edition features massive competitive metrics:

  • Total Prize Pool: Upward of $75 million USD
  • Participants: Over 2,000 professional players representing 200 elite clubs
  • Global Scale: Competitors arriving from more than 100 countries
  • Tournament Lineup: 25 separate tournaments spanning 24 distinct video game titles

The Esports Foundation will reveal the official Paris venue and ticketing details in the coming weeks. All previous ticket holders for the Riyadh location will automatically receive full refunds within 21 working days.
