Pacific Rim 2 Happening on 2018 with Star Wars’ Finn As Lead. Del Torro as Producer

Yes you read that right. Star Wars‘ Finn, John Boyega will be leading the sequel to the Legendary Entertainment‘s Robots vs. Kaijus film sequel.

Pacific Rim 2 is slated to be released on the 23rd of February 2018. With Spartacus creator, Steven S. Deknight directing the upcoming sequel. Guillermo Del Toro, director of the first Pacific Rim will have a producer role in this run.

John Boyega, as Deadline reports, will be playing the son of Idris Elba, the guy who did this speech:

Personally, I’m still wondering how they’ll work this in the narrative since the first movie pretty much focused on the Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba‘s character) and Mako Mori relationship (Rinko Kikuchi). There were no hints of Stacker having a son aside from Mako, who he adopted. However, it wasn’t established  that Mako was the only child of Pentecost. And since he likes to keep secrets, I won’t be surprised if they are going for an estranged relationship between father and son.

But then, I watched the first movie for the Robot-Kaiju beatdown and not really the plot so I’m not expecting much in that front. So, I’m just hoping that they would bring that much mayhem and robot bashing action that’s expected from Pacific Rim.

Filming will start at the fourth quarter of the year so let’s expect a bit more details as the production starts.

No word yet if we will see a return of any of the original cast in this sequel.
