Last Saturday, ASUS launched the first ever Tango-enabled and Google Daydream-ready smartphone, the Zenfone AR during the Zenfone AR: A New Reality Hackathon in Whitespace Manila.
The ZenFone AR uses an ASUS TriCam system that uses three rear cameras – a motion-tracking camera, depth-sensing camera, and high-resolution 23 megapixel PixelMaster 3.0 camera. The camera provides input to Tango, enabling smartphone augmented reality experience for users. While the motion-tracking camera lets the ZenFone AR keep track of it’s location as it moves through three-dimensional space. The depth-sensing camera on the other hand lets ZenFone AR determines the distance from objects by projecting an infrared (IR) laser and measuring the amount of time it takes for the IR light to bounce off objects and return to the phone.
The 23mp PixelMaster 3.0 camera on the other hand features a Sony Imax 318 image sensor to vividly capture the environment as a backdrop for the augmented reality experience.
